(094***) Kvůli X díky?

Many CZECHS love making this mistake! They really do. You hear it on radio, see it on TV. In 90% of cases, the wrong word will be used. All your friend will make this mistake, too. Observe them for a while, you will notice it immediately 🙂  But it is just so logical, like in all the other languages, it is so easy. How about learning the difference? Jó! Let’s be better than native speakers when it comes to Czech grammar.

Ahoj! Dnes mám pro tebe gramatickou nahrávku. A sice rozdíl mezi “kvůli” a “díky”. Mnoho Čechů zde dělá chyby. Ale já si myslím, že ty můžeš mluvit lépe než rodilí Češi 🙂 Tak do toho!

kvůli + komu/čemu (3. pád, dativ)

Kvůli špatnému počasí jsme zůstali doma.

Because of bad weather we stayed at home.

díky + komu/čemu (3. pád, dativ)*

Díky dnešní modré obloze se cítím o hodně lépe! Děkuji ti.

Thanks to todays blue sky I feel much better, thank you!

Kvůli/díky povodním jsem přišla o dům. = Because of/Thanks to floods I lost my house.

Celá dálnice D1 stála kvůli/díky jediné nehodě.  = The whole D1 highway stoped because of/thanks to one accident.

Dnes se kvůli/díky své dietě cítím lépe. = Today, I feel much better because of/thanks to my diet.

Kvůli/díky problémům v práci jsem včera nemohl na pivo. = Because of/thanks to troubles at work I could not hang out yesterday.

Babička mi zakázala mobil na tři dny. A kvůli/díky ní jsem ti nemohla odepsat! = My grandma has forbidden me to use my phone for 3 days. And because/thanks to her I could not reply to your message!

V našem kině si kvůli/díky novým 3D brýlím můžete užít podvodní svět víc než kdykoli předtím! = In our cinema, thanks to the new 3D glasses you can enjoy the underwater world more than ever.

*in Ostrava, you will hear ONLY “kvůli babičky, kvůli diety, kvůli povodní”. They do not use the dativ, they use the genitiv (2. pád). But gramatically, it is NOT correct.

    Kdeptak, to není sarkasmus.
Často v médiích říkají “díky povodním teď nemá kde bydlet”, “díky nehodě musel vlak stát 2 hodiny v 35°C”…
