Tak co, which one sounds like YOUR Czech? 😊

1
Monika, Start Speaking online Czech teacher with Monika
I KNOW ALMOST NOTHING

Start Speaking

Right now: You know ahoj, děkuju and perhaps “Jedno pivo, prosím!” 😄 But when somebody asks you something back... ehm. Not here yet.

  • talk about you and your actual life
  • Order something beyond that jedno pivo 😄
  • ask and answer simple questions

After the course: You start putting your own simple sentences together and taking them slowly outside in your life.

Mon + Thu 18:00–19:0026 Oct 2026–28 Jan 202724 lessons · Zoom
3 × 3,300 CZK3 monthly instalments · 9,900 CZK totalor 9,400 CZK paid in full
Ano, let’s start! →
See full Start Speaking details

This course is for you if:

  • You are starting from zero, or almost zero. Ahoj, welcome!
  • Your Czech collection has fewer than about 50 words so far.
  • You catch a word here and there, but putting your own sentence together is still a mystery.
  • You want to start USING Czech from the beginning. Yes, already with the little you know.
  • You want help, patience and people who are happy to hear you try.

What we practise, for example:

  • Introducing yourself and talking about your everyday life.
  • Ordering food and drinks. Ano, bábovku too 😄
  • Asking and answering simple questions.
  • Understanding a simple answer, or saying “Ještě jednou, prosím?”
  • We shape the course around YOUR goals, life and Czech situations. Your life gets a say in what we practise 😉

What you are working towards:

  • You have practised simple conversations about your own life.
  • You have useful phrases for everyday situations.
  • You can ask for information and practise understanding the answer.
  • You have little bits of Czech to try outside the lesson.
  • You have started speaking. Already. With the Czech you have.

How the lessons feel:

Pictures, movement, useful phrases, trying, laughing, trying again... and Monika helping you through it all. You can pause, search for a word and ask for help. Your first Czech sentence does not need to win a literary prize, že jo 😄

2
Maruška, Keep Speaking online Czech teacher with Maruška
I HAVE STARTED BEFORE. AND AGAIN.

Keep Speaking

Right now: You can answer a simple question. But then comes question číslo 2 and your brain goes: “Euuuh, I need more time, I need to organize the grammar tabs in my head..."!” You know something, just not getting it out.

  • talk about what happened and what is coming
  • say what you think and why
  • practise getting words out with less translatin and grammar overthinking

After the course: You actually react and share a bit more than “Jo, dobrý” and you also ask something back.

Tue 18:00–19:003 Nov 2026–2 Feb 202711 lessons · Zoom
2 × 2,150 CZK2 monthly instalments · 4,300 CZK totalor 4,200 CZK paid in full
Keep my Czech moving →
See full Keep Speaking details

This course is for you if:

  • You have done beginner Czech before. Maybe more than once... ahoj, familiar chapter one 😄
  • You recognise words and sentences, but they disappear when it is your turn to speak.
  • You can answer simple questions, but keeping the conversation going is harder.
  • You understand much more when you see it written down.
  • You want to stop translating every single sentence before letting it out.

What we practise:

  • Talking about your day and the things that actually happen in it.
  • Sharing what happened yesterday, last weekend, on that very strange tram ride 😄
  • Talking about what you want to do next.
  • Saying what you think and explaining proč = why.
  • Asking something back. Because Czech people have stories too 😉
  • Keeping the conversation going when you need a little more time.
  • We shape the course around YOUR goals, life and Czech situations. Your life gets a say in what we practise 😉

What you are working towards:

  • You have practised talking about what happened and what is coming.
  • You have more Czech to use in your everyday situations.
  • You practise going beyond your first short answer.
  • You get repeated practice speaking, pausing and trying again.
  • You give yourself more evidence that the Czech you already know is worth using.

How the lessons feel:

Maruška brings games, humour and Czech you can actually use. There is room to pause, doubt, ask, laugh and retry. And to practise using the words you already know, znovu a znovu, until they come a little more easily.

And if the level feels a bit... cože?!

You have not married your group 😄 If the level does not suit you, talk to us. By mutual agreement, it is possible to switch to another course running at the same time. We will work out together where your Czech fits best.

3
Nikola, Speak More Freely online Czech teacher with Nikola
I CAN SPEAK. BUT THE GROUP? COŽE?!

Speak More Freely

Right now: With one patient human, you can speak Czech. Then three people start talking, a joke flies past at Porsche speed and your Czech arrives asitak 3 minutes after the conversation ended.

  • react and ask something back
  • share basic stories and actual opinions
  • start believing you can speak Czech

After the course: You do not feel that left out in group talks anymore. Yu have more self-trust and courage to tell people to speak Czech with you.

Tue 18:00–19:0027 Oct 2026–2 Feb 202712 lessons · Zoom
2 × 2,400 CZK2 monthly instalments · 4,800 CZK totalor 4,700 CZK paid in full
To chci! →
See full Speak More Freely details

This course is for you if:

  • You can speak with one patient person when you have enough time.
  • When several people start talking, you lose the thread. A co teď?!
  • You answer questions, but asking something back does not come easily yet.
  • You are a smart, funny adult. In Czech, somehow all that becomes “Jo, dobrý.”
  • You want to be inside the conversation with friends, family or colleagues.

What we practise:

  • Reacting with the Czech you have, even before the perfect sentence arrives.
  • Asking follow-up questions because you actually want to know more.
  • Telling stories from your own life.
  • Sharing your opinions and explaining why you think that.
  • Understanding more of the informal Czech your people actually use.
  • Missing a word, asking or guessing from context... and continuing.
  • We shape the course around YOUR goals, life and Czech situations. Your life gets a say in what we practise 😉

What you are working towards:

  • You have practised entering a conversation and taking your place in it.
  • You practise reacting and asking, instead of only waiting for your next question.
  • You have more practice sharing your stories and opinions.
  • You have ways to continue when you do not catch everything.
  • You give your Czech-speaking self more room to show up.

How the lessons feel:

You tell somebody a story, they react, ask something unexpected and suddenly you need to find another way to explain it. Takže we practise that too 😄 With enough room to pause, ask and try again. Because your Czech life is full of actual humans with their own questions!

And if the level feels a bit... cože?!

You have not married your group 😄 If the level does not suit you, talk to us. By mutual agreement, it is possible to switch to another course running at the same time. We will work out together where your Czech fits best.

FAQ BEFORE JOININg...

You are maybe wondering...

I have no idea what my Czech level is. How do I choose?

That is completely normal. Your Czech on paper may be very different from what happens inside a real conversation. Choose according to the descriptions above or book a short matching call with Maruška. She will consider what you understand, what you can say, where you freeze and what you need Czech for.

I understand much more Czech than I can speak.

You are very much not alone. Many of our students recognise vocabulary and grammar but cannot access it quickly under pressure. Keep Speaking may fit earlier learners. Speak More Freely or Immersion may fit learners who already know Czech but lose it in real situations.

I have already taken beginner courses several times. Will this be the same?

We do not automatically send you back to chapter one because your speaking is hesitant. We look at what you already know, what you can actually use and what stops you when another person answers. The goal is not to become brilliant at Czech lessons. The goal is to use more Czech in your life.

What if everybody else speaks better than me?

The groups have only four to seven students and we match them carefully. People will never be completely identical—and that is useful—but you should have enough support to participate, make mistakes and grow without your brain becoming bramborová kaše.

What if I freeze or need a long time to answer?

Then you are exactly the kind of human we know how to support. You will practise gaining time, continuing after forgetting a word, asking for repetition and staying in the interaction. Fast, perfect answers are not the entrance requirement.

Will the teacher correct every mistake I make?

Ne. Your teacher will help you become clearer and more capable, but she will not interrupt every twelve seconds until your thought dies halfway through the sentence. Corrections support communication. They do not replace it.

Is there grammar in the courses?

Ano—but grammar has a job. It helps you say something you genuinely want to say. It is introduced and practised inside meaningful situations rather than thrown at you at light speed as a giant collection of endings.

What if Czech people always switch to English with me?

We practise making your intention clear, reacting faster and staying in Czech even when the interaction becomes messy. We cannot control every Czech person, but we can help you become more prepared to hold your place in the conversation.

I am busy. How much time do I need outside the lessons?

Attending the live lessons is the most important part. Small, regular contact with Czech between sessions will help, but you do not need to turn your life into a second university degree. We would rather see Czech connected to your real week than a heroic study plan you abandon after nine days.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

You should join as regularly as possible because interaction is the heart of the courses. Before enrolling, ask Maruška about the exact missed-lesson and recording arrangements for your chosen course.

What if I choose the wrong course?

You do not have to decide alone. Maruška can confirm your fit before you join. If something still feels clearly wrong after the course begins, contact us quickly so we can discuss whether another available group would make more sense.

Can I repeat a course instead of moving to the next one?

Absolutely. Stay, repeat, pause or switch. Moving more slowly is not the same as standing still. You move forward when the skill becomes available in real life—not simply because twelve weeks disappeared from the calendar.

How can I pay?

Ano, you have options 😄 Benefit Plus, invoice or card. Pay for your group course in full or in monthly instalments. Choose what suits you.

Are these Czech courses fully online? Which time zone are the lesson times in?

Ano. All lessons take place live online via Zoom. We use breakout rooms so that you spend the lesson speaking—not watching somebody else speak. All lesson times are Czech local time (Europe/Prague), including the switch between summer and winter time.

I’m a Czech and German tutor. I enjoy meeting people from different cultures and helping them feel comfortable in the country they have chosen to live in. I believe that language connects us, opens doors to people, culture, and the feeling of “I belong here.”

When I’m not teaching, I like to ride my bike, dance, walk in nature, garden, or relax with a book and a good glass of wine.

Interesting tidbit: the illustration below depicts a “táborák”, a beloved tradition in Czechia. Friends and families gather around a campfire to relax, chat, grill buřty, and sip beer.

With slowczech, we aim to provide you with a similar atmosphere: a warm, welcoming space to meet fellow learners and practice your Czech in a no-pressure setting. Enjoy! :)
